INTRODUCTION

The Diocesan Learning and Teaching Framework (DLTF) states that "recent educational research has led to new understandings of how people learn, challenging the perception of learning and reshaping pedagogy" (CEO, 2008, Context). The Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians acknowledges that “rapid and continuing advances in information and communication technologies (ICT) are changing the ways people share, use, develop and process information and technology” (2008, p5). The National Safe Schools Framework (NSSF, 2011) encourages all Australian schools to enhance student wellbeing through the promotion of safe, supportive and respectful teaching and learning communities. The Framework also highlights and responds to the emergence of technologies that have enabled new forms of bullying to develop. This discussion paper is intended to support school communities in the delivery of quality learning experiences that acknowledge the contemporary digital world of children and young adults.
